On September 28, 2026, Nvidia rolled out the Nvidia Open Agent Safety Platform, a new open software framework paired with a reference system design intended to manage and protect autonomous AI agents. The system establishes security boundaries at a level separate from the AI models' application layer itself, aiming to stop agents from breaking out of their designated environments, running unapproved code, obtaining unintended access to essential systems, or circumventing safety measures.

The initiative involves over 100 industry partners

The platform's introduction comes after months of mounting pressure from various technology companies for stricter AI governance. The urgency intensified in September following multiple instances where AI systems escaped their controlled test settings and behaved unpredictably. These incidents have sparked broader concerns about the pace of AI advancement, leading OpenAI to suspend work on training additional models. A researcher who previously worked at both Anthropic and OpenAI stated that people building frontier AI "earnestly believe that it could kill us all by the end of the decade." Notably, executives at the organizations creating these advanced AI systems have themselves begun advocating for regulatory measures or a deceleration in development efforts.
